The Sabbath Day
Leviticus 23:3
“Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of Yahwah in all your dwellings.”
Thoughts: Yahwah’s Law about His feast days begins with His reminder to Israel about His Shabbat. This verse instructs us to have a Holy convocation together during His Shabbat. Both His Sabbath and New Moons will be covered below.
Exodus 20:8-11
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of Yahwah thy Elohim: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days Yahwah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Yahwah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. ”
Thoughts: Details we are to keep Yahwah’s Shabbat holy. On the seventh day, not the first. We should keep this without question! Part of Yahwah’s Ten Commandments. Yahwah wants a relationship with us so much that He gave us one special day every single week to focus entirely on Him. He wants us to rest from our weekly chaos by refreshing ourselves in His presence.
Luke 4:16
“And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.”
Thoughts: Yahwah, when He was in flesh, kept the Sabbath Day holy. If He did not, it would have been sin, and He could not have made the sacrifice for our sins.
Acts 13:42-44
“And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.”
Thoughts: The early assembly kept the Sabbath Day holy. Not only that, but this shows the Gentile believers kept the Sabbath. This is one of the many passages that show the early assembly kept the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week and did not participate in "Sun" day worship as many Christians do today.
Isaiah 58:13-14
“If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of Yahwah, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in Yahwah; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of Yahwah hath spoken it.”
Thoughts: We ought not to seek our own things that we like on Yahwah’s day, but to seek Him first.
Nehemiah 10:31
“And if the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt.”
Thoughts: Those who loved Yahwah did not buy on Shabbat to honor His day. Both His Sabbath and New Moons were important to them.
The New Moon
Numbers 10:10
“Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your Elohim: I am Yahwah your Elohim.”
Thoughts: This is the first time New Moons are mentioned as far as what we are commanded to do. This is in the Law of Yahwah, although it is not categorized with the Feast Days as shown in Leviticus 23. The Hebrew word for months that is used is the following:
H2320 = months = chôdesh = From H2318; the new moon; by implication a month: - month (-ly), new moon.
We are commanded to blow with trumpets on the New Moons.
Numbers 28:11-15
“And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto Yahwah; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot; And three tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one bullock; and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one ram; And a several tenth deal of flour mingled with oil for a meat offering unto one lamb; for a burnt offering of a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto Yahwah. And their drink offerings shall be half an hin of wine unto a bullock, and the third part of an hin unto a ram, and a fourth part of an hin unto a lamb: this is the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year. And one kid of the goats for a sin offering unto Yahwah shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.”
Thoughts: This details the sacrifices that are to be made on the New Moons every single month. Of course, Machiach is our sacrifice. However, we can make a sacrifice of our time in praise, worship, prayers, and love to Him during these nights every month.
Amos 8:5-6
“Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit? That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?”
Thoughts: This suggests that it was customary for Israel not to conduct business during the New Moons, just as it was for the Sabbaths. Although this is the only verse I have found regarding transacting on a New Moon, Yahwah seems to care whether we are transacting during His night.
Psalms 81:3-4
“Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day. For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the Elohim of Jacob.”
Thoughts: A direct command to blow Trumpets on the New Moons.
Psalms 104:19
“He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.”
Thoughts: What is the moon for? For telling the time for months, the sun is for days. The Sabbath and New Moons are weekly and monthly appointed times to fellowship with our Creator.
Ezekiel 46:1-3
“Thus saith Adonai Yahwah; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened. And the prince shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate without, and shall stand by the post of the gate, and the priests shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the threshold of the gate: then he shall go forth; but the gate shall not be shut until the evening. Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before Yahwah in the sabbaths and in the new moons.”
Thoughts: People came to the Temple during the Sabbath and New Moons to worship Yahwah, not just for one of the days between the Sabbath and New Moons, but for both.
Isaiah 66:22-23
“For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith Yahwah, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith Yahwah.”
Thoughts: When Yahwah comes back, we would all be required to worship Him during the New Moons. This was a statue, and it will be a statue, so why is it not one now?
Conclusion Of The Sabbath And New Moons
I want to keep both His Sabbath and New Moons. He schedules appointed times weekly and monthly to draw closer to Him in a relationship. The more dedicated time I get to spend with Yahwah, the happier I am, because of love. His Sabbath and New Moons are holy, and we should set them apart in our busy schedules to make Him our number one priority and keep Him first in our hearts.

We proclaim one name as given to the disciples and early assembly on the Day of Pentecost. The only Name that was prophesied in the Old Blood Covenant that will be restored in the last days, the Name of יהוה. Not jesus, or any "shua" name such as yeshua, yahshua etc. Take His Name in baptism as Peter preached in Acts chapter 2.
Malachi 1:11 "For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith יהוה of hosts."
